Workshop: Swachh Survekshan 2018

August 18, 2017 |

SDC is glad to have presented the solid waste management scenario in Uttarakhand from a citizen perspective during a recently concluded workshop in Dehradun. It was encouraging to see the focus and seriousness being put both by the Centre and the State towards accomplishing the ever evolving sanitation challenges the city faces.

The nationwide sanitation competition called Swachh Survekshan, was one of the highlights of the meet. Mr. Anil Prakash from KPMG made a detailed presentation on the methodology to be used for the scaled up competition to be launched in 4,041 cities and towns across the entire country. This is slated to be the biggest ever competition in any part of the world from a sanitation perspective. Citizen participation is the bulwark of the competition and places an enhanced focus on people engagement.

Other issues that occupied centre stage were source segregation, door to door collection, street sweeping, waste processing and open defecation. It was encouraging to see the state government offering incentives of 75, 50 and 25 lakhs to the best performing Urban Local Bodies. Entrepreneurial presence through product stalls completed the picture.
