Social Development for Communities (SDC) Foundation is an environmental action and advocacy group based in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The Foundation is registered as a not-for-profit organization under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. SDC Foundation was created with the objective of conducting research on the cutting edge issues of environmental governance and social development. Along with conducting extensive research programs, SDC has been deeply engaged in conceptualising and implementing sustainable solutions at the grassroots level and mobilising the communities. SDC has three main focus areas: environmental conservation, urban governance and citizen engagement.

The team at SDC is armed with rich experience in research, advocacy and communication. The ideology of the Foundation is to promote equitable social development of all communities and ensure the sustainable growth of Mother Earth. SDC has pledged to adopt a participatory approach, engage with citizens, undertake policy research and facilitate better standards of governance. Through its work, the Foundation aims to promote globally recognised environmental principles of circular economy and sustainable development.

SDC has a long experience of working on policy and community projects with government departments, independent bodies, intergovernmental organizations, corporates and citizen groups. The Foundation has been an active stakeholder on a number of ecological-social issues pertaining to the strategic and sensitive, Indian Himalayan Region (IHR). Driven by the policy of three A’s – Analysis, Advocacy and Action – SDC is committed to conceiving and executing sustainable and tangible reforms at the community and policy level.
