Earth Day was celebrated with great energy by SDC Foundation this year. The theme for this year was "Planet Vs Plastics" and we used this as an opportunity to address the issue of sustainable plastic waste management in a collective manner. We organized large-scale collective events such as programs and plastic collection drives in numerous universities, schools, and other institutions.
A few of the institution and schools include the Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board, Dehradun Cantonment Board, Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Graphic Era Hill University, Graphic Era Institute of Medical Sciences, Graphic Era Deemed University, Wildlife Institute of India, Hope Town School, The OASIS School and more than 20 other government and private schools. We are extremely grateful to all institutions and schools for collectively participating in the Earth Day program based on our call for action.
Further, various competitions were organized by the schools themselves to raise awareness among school children about the dangers of single use plastic and to encourage them to reduce and recycle their plastic consumption. Similarly, single-use plastic collection drives were carried out through these programs.
