The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global goals established by the United Nations in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These goals are designed to address a broad range of global challenges, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice.
The India SDG Dashboard is a comprehensive platform designed to track and report progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. It provides data and insights on how various states and Union Territories (UTs) in India are performing against these goals.
On Friday, July 12, 2024, NITI Aayog released the SDG 2023-24 report, highlighting that Uttarakhand has achieved the top rank in the country for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Having risen from 9th place in 2019, Uttarakhand’s significant progress underscores its commitment to SDG implementation.

Localizing SDGs: Uttarakhand has made significant progress in including SDGs in state and district planning. They have created a detailed State vision document and specific plans for each district.
Centre for Public Policy and Good Governance (CPPGG): CPPGG is leading SDG implementation by coordinating with state departments and holding district-level workshops to develop vision frameworks and action plans aligned with SDGs.
District and Gram Panchayat Integration: Uttarakhand has successfully integrated SDGs into District and Gram Panchayat Development Plans and has set up SDG indicator frameworks at both state and district levels.
Participatory Planning: The state focuses on involving Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Bodies in planning, ensuring comprehensive development and effective SDG implementation.

Uttarakhand scored 79 out of 100 in the SDG India Index 2023-24, sharing the top spot with Kerala. The state's scores, ranging from 72 to 85 in different areas, show its dedication to sustainable development. This success is due to good governance, targeted actions in various sectors, and involving local communities in planning. Integrating SDGs into local governance has also boosted its performance.
