Ganga Prahri (गंगा प्रहरी): Ganga Prahris are guardians of the Ganga and are a cadre of motivated volunteers from the local community. They work for biodiversity conservation and cleanliness of the Ganga with the ultimate objectives of restoring its nirmal and aviral dhara (निर्मल और अविरल धारा).

As is well known, the biodiversity of the Ganga is under stress due to reduced water availability, habitat degradation, pollution and unsustainable resource extraction. A joint initiative of the National Mission for Clean Ganga and Wildlife Institute of India (NMCG-WII), 2500 plus Ganga Prahris from the states of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal are working for the restoration of the Ganga.
