We are delighted to share that Indiahikes, India’s largest trekking community, has joined hands with us to address and highlight the various environmental concerns facing the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR). A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 27 July 2018 by the two organizations.
This is a “first of its kind collaboration” between a pure trekking company and policy think tank in any Himalayan state. Currently, there exists no platform in the IHR that consolidates citizen feedback and regional opinions. With its Himalayan Environment Reporting Forum (HERF), SDC hopes to fill the knowledge void through the initiative.
Gati is partnering with different Himalayan based organizations as network partners in order to build a robust citizen-centric framework. The key objective of the Forum is to discuss the emerging challenges in the context of development and sustainability in the IHR and find out probable solutions to these issues. Citizen engagement remains the key element of the HERF initiative.
