Urban Governance with School Students:

Change begins at a young age. This is what drives the I Change My City (ICMyC) Challenge conceptualised by Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy. As their city partners for Dehradun, SDC Foundation took the challenge to ten schools over a three month period.

On 10th December more than 30 school students interacted with the Municipal Commissioner in the city of Dehradun. The one to one talk was both enlightening and inspirational. The bureaucrat was open minded and made several commitments. The young ones got an opportunity to interact directly with a senior, IAS government functionary. It was also their first time at the Municipal Corporation which is the nerve centre for urban governance for any city in the country.
As facilitators of this student to government exchange, we stand committed to take the process ahead. Small but consistent efforts are bound to yield results.
