Another exuberating evening with an interesting round table dialogue on “Discussing the implementation of plastic ban in Uttarakhand’. Government officials from Urban Development Directorate, Pollution Control Board, UNDP in India along with citizen leaders, civil society workers from Waste Warriors and Pramukh and independent researchers engaged in a very fruitful discussion.

Special thanks to Rawat Ji who has been running a vegetable shop in Vasant Vihar for last 40 years! He shared a completely different perspective on the issue of plastic waste management.

Few quick learnings which came out of the discussion:

1- Adopting individual sustainable practices
2- Enhanced citizen engagement
3- Robust action from the state authorities
4- Fixing the accountability of brand owners and large producers
