Urban Development Directorate , Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy and SDC Foundation successfully conducted one-day Conclave on Systemic Urban Transformation: Reviving the City of Dehradun
Political representatives, bureaucrats, policymakers, citizen and women leaders came together on one platform to discuss and learn about various aspects of introducing a series of systemic urban reforms in the capital city of Dehradun. We are thankful to Janaagrha for bringing in the expertise and technical knowledge on the domain of Urban Governance. Political representatives from Almora, Uttarkashi, Muni Ki Reti, Vikasnagar, Haridwar and Rishikesh also participated in our panel discussion.
Janaagraha shared the vital findings of #ASICS report for Dehradun city with the audience. ASICS is India’s only independent benchmarking of cities using a systemic framework. It evaluates India’s city-systems: the complex, mostly-invisible factors (such as laws, policies, institutions, institutional processes) that underpin urban governance and strongly influence the quality of life in India’s cities.
Citizen leaders from different civil society organizations shared their valuable suggestions and ideas on range of issues like waste management, plastic ban, swachh survekshan and citizen engagement. The session was highly interactive and productive.
We are also thankful to a number of experts and government officials who joined us today for sharing their experiences and learnings till now.
The conclave ended with officials from UDD, experts from Janaagraha and team SDC deciding to continue to take this initiative forward on two fronts: Citizen Engagement and Municipal Finance.
