Sustainable Urbanization – Creating Smart Cities (CII-Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology) Privileged to have moderated the session on “Sustainable Urbanization – Creating Smart Cities” in the recently concluded Environment Summit jointly hosted by CII and UCOST in Dehradun. It was a pleasure to have Jitendra Tyagi – MD, Uttarakhand Metro, Krishan Singh Rautela – Uttarakhand government consultant, PPP, Procurement and Infrastructure and Rajeev Tiwary, Senior Manager from global EPC leader Black and Veatch as participants in the session. Krishan made a particularly compelling presentation on the urban opportunities available in the Himalayan, mountain cities in the country. The day for the event couldn’t be more apt. As many of you know, Dehradun was recently selected in the list of the recently held Smart City Mission competition. With a planned investment of INR 1400 crores (USD 200 Million plus) the city and its residents are looking forward to much needed sustainable development. Solid waste management, water, traffic and parking command centres, smart mobility, environmental conservation, intelligent tech solutions, housing for all and heritage conservation are some of the salient features of the city plans. As a city and a state, we are eagerly banking on the smart city template for provision of efficient urban services. Good luck, best wishes! #IndianCities #SmartCities
