The Dehradun Cantonment Board organized the first of its kind, Doon Swachhta Chaupal, at the Army Ground, Garhi Cantt, Dehradun on February 3-4 2023, in collaboration with SDC Foundation as their knowledge partner. The summit, focusing on waste management, technology, and circularity, drew public representatives and officials from districts including Pithoragarh, Almora, Bageshwar, Uttarkashi, and Tehri, along with pan-India companies showcasing their innovations in waste management and recycling.
The inaugural session was chaired by the Chief Guest, Governor Uttarakhand, Lt Gen Gurmit Singh: PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM (Retired), and Mr. Ajay Sharma, Director General – Defence Estates, as Guest of Honour.
The two-day summit included five panel discussions that covered vital topics such as Solid Waste Management in Uttarakhand, Swachhta Technologies & Alternatives: Opportunities & Challenges, the evolving landscape of startups and innovation and the challenges faced by sanitation workers.
Among the 51 participating companies were well-known national organizations like NEPRA, Aterro, Recykal, Sahaas, and prominent startups like Pad Care, Spruce Up and Shyana. A significant highlight was the launch of the Mountain Swachhta Technology Challenge on the second day. This challenge aims to inspire companies, startups, and students to develop technology capable of efficiently collecting garbage from hill slopes.
