Nestled in the bustling neighbourhood of Mehuwala, Dehradun, lies our Plastic Waste Segregation & Learning Center.
Established earlier this year as part of our Plastic Bank Project — a collaboration between SDC Foundation and Airbus — the center is used to store and segregate plastic waste from our expanding network of Plastic Banks across Dehradun and its outskirts.
The Plastic Bank Project is a citizen-led initiative aimed at fostering a sustainable mindset in the Dehradun region through awareness, plastic waste segregation, and behavior change. Plastic Banks act as designated collection points for plastic waste, and over the past year, they’ve become a city-wide movement involving over 90,000 people.
Once transported here, the plastic is further sorted for recycling and repurposing, advancing our commitment to the principles of a circular economy. This process not only reduces litter and relieves pressure on open spaces but also diverts plastic from landfills throughout the city.
As of Novemebr 2024, we have opened over 230 Plastic Banks across Dehradun, with plans to establish 70-80 more over the next five months to hit our target of 300!
We’ve thoughtfully designed our center as a learning hub, dedicated to raising awareness about plastic waste and promoting responsible waste management and disposal practices.
Over the past few months, we have hosted multiple events here to educate students and the local community on plastic waste issues and sustainable management practices!
