SDC organized a public awareness program for the local community about plastic waste and the importance of proper plastic waste management. The event was held at our Plastic Waste Segregation & Learning Center in Mehuwala, Dehradun.
SDC’s Pyare Lal provided the audience with detailed information on the functioning of the center. He educated local residents about different types of plastic waste and proper disposal methods.
Praveen Upreti from SDC shared details about the Plastic Bank Project, stating that SDC Foundation has established 220 plastic banks in Dehradun and nearby areas. These plastic banks have been set up in schools, colleges, hospitals, hostel points, government offices, universities, showrooms, supermarkets, and residential welfare associations (RWAs).
The program saw active participation from local residents, school students, and women's groups. Many participants shared their views and discussed the issue, with some sharing personal experiences of how they could reduce plastic waste in their homes.
SDC Founder Anoop Nautiyal expressed his gratitude to the attendees and said that their goal is to take steps toward clean and sustainable development. He emphasized that this initiative will play a significant role in promoting cleanliness and development in the local community and will be a meaningful effort toward segregation, recycling, and proper management of plastic waste in nearby areas. He stated that the purpose of the program is not only to share information but also to build a network where people can learn from one another and collaboratively address plastic pollution.
During the program, SDC members Bittu, Pramod, and Subhash were honored with traditional scarves by senior social workers Ranveer Chaudhary and Arun Ruhela.
The program was moderated by Dinesh Semwal of SDC Foundation.
